About Andhra Pradesh Ophthalmic Society

It was in 1976, a group of 5 ophthalmologists from AP, Dr Vengal Rao, Dr Srirama Murthy, Dr Satpathy, Dr Ranga Reddy & Dr Ramachandran were traveling together to attend the annual AIOS conference at Bhopal. The initial spark came as a suggestion that we form the AP State Society. This initial spark was from none other than Dr P Ranga Reddy. The suggestion soon became a reality & the AP state Ophthalmological society made a humble beginning in 1976 under the able stewardship of Dr P Siva Reddy.
All through these years, the able stewardship of the successive presidents steered our society from strength to strength. The society had over 1300 life members.
Due to the geographical division of Andhra Pradesh, the erstwhile APOS was divided into a new Andhra Pradesh Ophthalmic Society (APOS) and Telangana Ophthalmological Society (TOS). The new APOS has been registered under the Andhra Pradesh Societies Registration Act 2001 bearing registration number 192 of 2014 , headquartered in Vijayawada

From the President’s Desk

At the outset, I would like to thank all APOS members and the APOS Executive for the confidence in me and electing me as the President of the prestigious APOS. I would like to shoulder this great responsibility and achieve certain goals during my tenure.

Updating the APOS members list and initiating a new membership drive will be our top priority. More membership will increase our importance in AIOS. District-level ophthalmological societies must be formed in all districts, and they must play an active role by being inclusive of AIOS programmes. We will support them in organizing more CME programmes by bringing reputed speakers at both national and state levels.

Postgraduates and practicing ophthalmologists will be trained and updated on recent developments through our ARC Committee activities. Under the leadership of our AIOS President Dr. Pardha Biswas, Dr. Santhosh Honovar, Dr. Manoj Madhur, and others, many new initiatives are taking shape at the national level. We will strive hard to ensure our members benefit from these activities.

As part of our social responsibilities, APOS will take up the following initiatives:

  • Diabetic Retinopathy awareness
  • Glaucoma awareness
  • Promotion of Eye Donation
  • School Children Eye Check-up

I thank you all once again and request your cooperation in achieving the goals of APOS.

Thanks,
Dr. AAV Ramalinga Reddy

From the Secretary’s Desk

Respected Members of APOS,
Thank you for electing the entire team of APOS Executive Committee for the period of 2022-25 unanimously. This is the first time the constitution of managing committee of APOS was completed in the general body as per the amended by-laws of APOS. Now the managing committee representation is well balanced both region wise and private and teaching sector wise. Congratulation to the entire new team.
Membership strength is progressing at a steady pace and crossed 1500 mark and we will try to live up to the expectations of this large growing organisation. There are many more Ophthalmology practitioners and post graduates who are not members of our society as well as All India Ophthalmology Society(AIOS) please motivate them to become as members and encourage them to participate in all the society programs.
The members profile data needs to be updated at regular intervals and we request the managing committee members to take up this responsibility and complete it on a time bound program. The website will be completely updated including the installation of an app in the mobile phones for the convenience of the user members. Apart from mobile and Email communication we are planning to use whatApp business professional account for fast and effective communication.
